There are various icons and images that would entice students and teachers to utilize the sight. There are places on this site that you can go to that allow the visitor to work on their math skills or their reading skills. Within the reading skills section the site utilizes characters from popular books within their games and sites, which makes it cohesive. Summary of The Game: This game is a spin off of "hang man." The name of the game "hang man" isn't the most friendly or appropriate name, so with a name like stay afloat the game is still the same, but just more appropriate for the class room. A child can play the game just like "hang man" where they have to guess the word, but instead of a person being hung, more items get added to a boat and if you don't guess the correct letters the boat will sink. Evaluation of the Game: FunBrain does have limited options on their website, but what they do have is a good use of resources for students. It is fairly easy for a student to navigate the site based off of the use of graphics and organization. Color: Great use of color, and vivid graphics. Repetition: After playing the game more than one time, the game develops a pattern and the student learns to guess certain letters rather than other letters because there is a higher probability that a letter like "a" will be used. Talking Text:N/A Visual Cues: There are no visual clues, however there are hints as to what the word may be, via written clues. Mistakes: If you guess the wrong letter, another item gets added to the boat, and if you make too many mistakes the boat sinks. The game will tell the student if they choose the wrong letter. Rating: N/A Highlighted Cues: N/A Navigation and Routines: There isn't much to navigate with this game, because everything is really clear. The games vary from math, reading, writing, coloring, and science. The wide variety of games truly allows the child to experience various subjects in a fun atmosphere. When the child chooses the correct word, the tile that they choose disappears and part of an image is revealed. This pattern continues until all of the tiles are uncovered. In the end the child is left with an image as a reward for getting all of the correct rhymes. Evaluation of the Game: I really liked this game. I liked how there was a correlation between what was written on the website and how there was a voice reading it. That is great for audio and visual learners, and enhances skills that the child may or may not be strong in. Overall I was really impressed with this game and website because of the different ways it can educate children. Color: THis website uses a variety of colors and graphics and it engages the child.
